A traffic generator built on the bench it runs on

Stateful L4-7 traffic from an application-mix library, line-rate L2-3 streams, live counters and captures in the browser. Built by the TEST4NET lab for its own customer runs, checked next to commercial units in every session, priced per gigabit. In beta this autumn: book a demo on CloudLAB or join the beta list.

What it does

Three jobs, one window

The generator is built around the cases the bench runs every week: throughput and sessions on a firewall, convergence on a router pair, an application mix on a load balancer

  1. 1

    Stateful L4-7 load

    HTTP, HTTPS, TLS

Connections per second, concurrent sessions, throughput with the device features on. TLS handshakes in the mix, at the rates the profile sets

    RFC 9411 style cases

  2. 2

    Application mix

    library

Web, video, VoIP, file transfer and enterprise applications as weighted flows. Build a profile from your own traffic statistics or take one from the library and adjust the weights

    Profile saved with the report

  3. 3

    L2-3 streams

    line rate

Frame sizes, VLANs, IMIX, loss and latency per stream for RFC 2544 and RFC 2889 cases on switches and routers; convergence timing with a route withdrawal

Same counters as the L4-7 run

How it differs

Where it beats what is on the market, and where it does not yet

The two references are the open-source generators engineers already run and the commercial testers in our rack. The columns say what the beta does today; the release notes say what changes.

Status

Beta this autumn, shown at DigiTec 2026

The build runs customer sessions on CloudLAB with a commercial tester next to it. Known gaps are in the release notes; what matches the reference is marked as such.

How to get it

Demo on the bench, then a seat, then a licence

The sequence is the same for every customer and every build

  1. 1

    Demo

    one session

Your device in the rack or ours, a profile close to your traffic, a commercial unit next to the generator. You see both columns live

    Report with both instruments

  2. 2

    Beta seat

    autumn 2026

Early builds every few weeks, release notes, direct chat with the developers, your cases first in the queue

Within your bench plan on CloudLAB

  3. 3

    Licence

    after the beta

The generator in your own lab, priced per gigabit, updates included. The profiles and suites from the bench come with it

What hardware does it need?

On CloudLAB, none on your side. For your own lab the requirements come with the demo report: server class, network cards and the rates each gives.

Does it replace the commercial testers on the bench?

No. It covers the common L4-7 and L2-3 cases at a lower price per gigabit; commercial units stay for protocol emulation and the cases where they are the reference. The report names the instrument behind every number.

Can we bring our own traffic profile?

Yes. Flow statistics or a capture from your network become a weighted profile; the data itself never leaves your side. The profile is saved with the report and reused on the next release.

How are results validated?

Every beta run goes next to a commercial unit on the same device. Counters that match the reference are marked as validated in the release notes; the rest is listed as a known gap.

What does a beta seat cost?

On CloudLAB it comes within the bench plan you book. A licence for your own lab is priced per gigabit after the beta.
